Mr. Kashif Riaz, Graduate student, MEMS Lab, Faculty of Electronic Engineering (FEE) and Mr. Mubasher Saleem, Research Associate, Faculty of Computer System Engineering (FCSE) won the Coventor & MANCEF  MEMS Research Proposal Competition and were awarded MEMS design software, CoventorWare, license at the COMS 2010 award ceremony in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico, USA.

Coventor, Inc. is a market leader in automated design solutions for micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS). Every year Coventor and the Micro- and Nanotechnology Commercialization Education Foundation (MANCEF) challenge students across the world to submit a detailed proposal of their research for the upcoming year. The outcomes are announced at Commercialization of Micro-Nano-System (COMS) conference. COMS is the world’s premier meeting place that brings together leaders from all over the world and every sector of the industry – from high tech companies, national labs, regional development and government agencies, investment and consulting groups, market researchers, educators and students. The organizers of the COMS conference judge the proposal submissions and select 5 projects who receive a 1-year free license of the CoventorWare Designer and Analyzer software.

The scholarships have been awarded at the COMS 2010 award ceremony in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico on Wednesday Sept 1, 2010. The research proposal jointly submitted by Kashif Riaz and Mubasher Saleem working in the field of MEMS design and chip testing under the supervision of Dr. Shafaat A. Bazaz, Dean FCSE, has been included in five Coventor scholarship winners on their outstanding presentations out of 225 research proposals from all over the world. The scholarship consists of 1-year Coventor’s CoventorWare Designer / Analyzer package license and chance to publish research. Four other universities which have been awarded along with GIK Institute are:

  • Imperial College London, UK.
  • Texas Tech University, USA.
  • La Trobe University, Australia.
  • Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra India.
We want to thank Coventor for their continued support of this Scholarship program and Dr. Junaid Mughal, Dean Faculty of Electronic Engineering for their continuous support to MEMS Design Lab.
