SWABI – More than 400 students, the highest ever number, were inducted in the five faculties of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology here on Saturday.
Unveiling the figures of the students, the academic staff said that since the induction of the first batch in 1993, the number of the students had been increased slowly and gradually. They said that the institute was the first choice for talented youths from all over the country and children of expatriate Pakistanis.
The academic staff said that due to devastating flood in the country it was decided that grand ceremony like the previous years would not be held. However, parents of the fresh students from all over the country were invited to visit the institute along with their children and see the environment and educational facilities provided to their wards for acquiring quality education.
Jehangir Bashar, Rector of the Institute said: “We grieve with the nation and decided not to hold the formal commencement ceremony for the new batch this year, which has long been a tradition of the Institute. However, we feel we must not jeopardize the future of our students by disrupting the academic schedule. Classes will, therefore, start as announced.” The induction of a new batch in GIK Institute is always a very significant occasion for the Institute and the student community.
