Introducing the GIKI Alumni Portal

June 21, 2010 in home by Hassan

Ever since GIKI Alumni Association got registered and started functioning we have realized that in this rapidly changing world of technology and high speed internet, a virtual home of GIKIAA is more important than a physical home.

Alumni of GIKI are spread throughout the globe and a sizeable section of them is constantly on the move. It is therefore not feasible to expect them to be at some physical location at all times. Therefore we needed to provide a framework where they can remain constantly in touch with each other, with GIKIAA, as well as receive latest news from the GIK Institute .

What is now in front of you is the very incarnation of that idea. The idea is to have a strong and tighly knit community of the Alumni of GIKI. Through GIKIAA and through this virtual home we strongly hope that meaningful contact will get established and maintained among all involved.

Among other things, this portal provides ability submit pictures, latest news from around the world from GIKIANs, discussion forms (dubbed, Sharing and Caring) and a special forums for job postings. It also provides the ability to search registered alumni using different search criterias and an ability to keep information about current and past Faculty members.

This portal will also be used to manage different programs run by GIKIAA, e.g the financial aid program currently being run by GIKIAA Executive Committee. We need your feedback in order to better serve you and to serve the constantly evolving needs of this growing community.

First GIKIan to ride 206 miles on bicycle

June 21, 2010 in home by Hassan

Saad Fazil of batch 1 (class of 97) has become the first known GIKIan to travel 206 miles on bicycle. There may be others but we have yet to come to know about them.

Saad Fazil was one of the participants of a bicycle marathon which started from Seattle, Washington and ended at Portland, Oregon in the Western United States. Saad trained with and raised funds for the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Participation in this event required Saad to generate a sum of $3500 through donations. He underwent a 5-month training conducted by the Society. The funds raised are used by The Leukemia & Lymphoma  Society to find cure for blood related cancers.

Make GIKIAA portal a lively place

June 21, 2010 in home by Hassan

Now that the new GIKIAA web portal is ready to be used, we need your help in managing its contents. How can you help?

1) Send us pictures.

This portal has a picture gallery where alumni can post pictures which may interest Alumni. For example, pictures of any get togethers, contests where GIKIANs took part or even personal ones which you might think others will like.

2) Send us info about Alumni Achievements

If you or any Alumni (including students of GIKI) have achieved something which is worth sharing, do let us know. At the very least you can send us contact information of that particular person and we will take it from there to get the story out from him/her and present it through this site.

3) Job postings

If there is any jobs you would like GIKI Alumni to know about post them in the "Jobs" area of discussion forums.

4) Events updates
If there is any upcoming event that you think Alumni should know about, let us know and we will post its information on this portal. All future events are automatically shown below the news section on the front page.

5) Faculty Info

If you there is any faculty member you have contact info of and which is not listed in the Faculty section please let us know so we can update it.

6) General Feedback
Let us know what is good, what is bad and what is ugly about this site and we will try our best to address any issues related to it.Thanks a bundle for your help!
